    Sat 9/28 - Kids Making Meatballs and Marinara - your little sous chefs will work with Maggiano’s chefs to learn how to bulid their own Maggiano’s Meatballs and famous marinara sauce. Kids will receive a chef hat and apron to take home with them and after 8 classes, they’ll receive their own monogrammed chef coat. The class is preceded by a family style breakfast as well as bloody marys and mimosas for the parents.

    Tonight 9/26 - Their Stop Animation class for ages 10-15 has its first of eight sessions. Learn to work in teams to create short stop-motion based films.

    Tomorrow 9/27 - Good Vibes Open Mic Night

    Mon 9/30 - Second session of Street Art, Graffiti and Public Art for ages 11-15 - Learning to paint in the styles of famous street and graffiti artists, experiment with different mediums including sticker making, graffiti lettering, stencils, street installations and more.

    Tues 10/1 - Art Foundations for ages 6-8 - This is the second session of this 8 week class. Kids will hang out in their downtown art studio and work on creating art as well as learning how to express themlselves visually.

    Also Tues 10/1 - Adult Drawing Class - This is the first in a 4 week set of classes for the true beginner hosted by artist Anita Hagan.

    Lastly on Tues 10/1 - What’s Dope Open Mic night featuring hip hop and spoken word

    Tomorrow - Fri 9/21 - Big Blue Heron painting class. A canvas will be provided with a heron pre-drawn onto it so you can concentrate on the painting process. You will learn how to mix paint and crate hues in blues with a limited palette geared for your success.

    Registration is open for Art Farm’s 8 week fall semester, which starts Sept 23rd, with great art classes for kids ages 6-15. Classes include Street Art, Art Fundamentals, Mixed Media as well as Stop Animation. 20% sibling discounts available as well as a new payment plan option where you only pay $100 now and spread the rest out over two payments during the semester.

    Tomorrow - 9/20 - Beers + Beethoven for Adults - An evening of music, sketching and beer. The Annapolis Chamber Players will play while you socializing, enjoy some local beer and sketch.

    Sat 9/21 - Henna Experience - Explore the ancient art of henna application, identifying supplies, safety and application techniques. Practice artistic elements and create designs on paper.

    Mon 9/23 - Fall semester begins with Street Art, graffiti and public art for ages 11-15 - Kids will learn to paint in the styles of famous street artists, experiment with different mediums and create their own pieces of street art. They’ll cover sticker making, graffiti lettering, stencils, street installations and more.

    Tues 9/24 - 4 week Drawing Class for Adults - A true beginners class teaching the basics including materials needed to get started, simple shapes and gestures and concluding with your first drawing of a still life.

    Also Tues 9/24 - Art Foundations for ages 6-8. This 8 session class will teach your kids to express themselves visually, explore the world of artists, their personal history, studying their techniques and creating original art in that style.

Starting in the afternoon and carrying on through the evening, you’ll photograph historic homes, lively streets and as it gets darker, enjoy the blue hour just after sunset and capture car light trails with long exposures.

Zentangle has been described as “Focus on creating pattern designs and mindfulness so that you do not think of anything else”.     The state fair just wound up but the PG County Fair starts today and the Anne Arundel County Fair starts next weekend. Check out all the great fair food, games and rides, but also be sure to check out the agricultural exhibits, crafts and other great stuff.


    Sat 9/7 - Books for International Goodwill - B.I.G. Book Sale - Just off of Defense Highway past vehicle emissions, their warehouse has more than 70,000 books covering all categories. Books generally cost between $1 and $3 with children’s books being even cheaper generally!


    Tues 9/10 - Sketch Night: “Beautiful Decay” - A monthly gathering for anyone wanting to let loose for an evening of sketching and artistic community. Charles Lawrence of FinArt hosts this month with the theme of “Beautiful Decay: Nature Drawing with Skulls and Bones” featuring still life created from the collection of Charles Lawrence

    Fall classes… registration is open for Arts and Dance Classes. Classes for adults and children begin the week of Sept 9th. Maryland hall has a wide variety of classes in so many subjects it’s really hard to keep track of them all. But some of the topics you might be interested in are ballet and dance, ceramics, traditional and digital drawing, film and media, glass fusing, mix media, music, painting, photography as well as woodturning!

    … and that’s just for adults! They have programs for kids along the same lines and more!

    Sat 8/31 - Beverly Triton Nature Park - Moth Prowl - Take a look at the mysterious world of moths while exploring Beverly Triton after dark. Moths are important pollinators and way more beautiful than you may have previously thought. Did you know that there are over 11,000 species of moths in the US alone? More than all the bird and mammal species in North American combined!

    Tues 9/3 - William Paca House - Sip and Paint in the Garden - Unleash your inner artist in this beautiful setting, creating a special Fall Welcome canvas painting while enjoying a glass of Autumn Sangria. No painting experience is necessary and everything is included.

    Wed 9/4 - Villa Flores Restaurant, Glen Burnie - Artist Jenn Moselen and the crew of Maryland Craft Parties are having a Hocus Pocus Paint Night - Enjoy dinner and appetizers before painting and happy hour for the duration of the event. Your ticket includes apron, instruction and art materials.

    Wed 9/4 - Drop on by Muse Paintbar at Annapolis Town Center for Paint Night - Enjoy light fare, beer, wine and soft drinks with the first round on them! Painting supplies and instruction are provided and there will also be a raffle for a chance to win pieces from local artisans.

A true beginners class where they’ll break it all down and explain both the materials and the process of watercolor. You’ll learn how to layer paint, glaze, use white space and make skin tones. All materials are included.

    Sat 8/24 - Beverly Triton Nature Park - Faires in the Woods - Bring the kids and learn how fairies of storybook legend might use elements of nature to build their homes, providing camoflage and protection. This is a great way to engage children in nature and spark their imaginations. Kids will spend time scavenging supplies and building their own fairy homes.

    Wed 8/28 - Sandy Point - Invasive Species Hike - Join a park naturalist for a guided hike at Sandy Point State Park to learn about invasive species found in Maryland.

    Also, be sure to check out “Evolve: Paintings by Jeff Huntington” at the Jo Fleming Contemporary Art on Maryland Ave, an exhibition of Jeff’s contemporary portaiture in oil on panels or canvas as well as cut paper. You’ve seen Jeff’s large scale work all around town but here’s a chance to see more of his work without driving all around town.

    Sun 8/25 - 3D Art - Kids ages 5-12 will construct scupltures with a variety of materials including wood, wire, cloth, natural objects and more.

    Wed 8/28 - Adventures in Watercolor & Textures - Learn about using different materials and techniques for creating interesting backgrounds in watercolor. You don’t need to have watercolor experience to enjoy this workshop.

    Fri 8/23 - Comedy Film Night - Check out this family friendly monthly film night that will entertain and educate.. This month’s feature is Loony Toons! This event is free but donations are always appreciated.

    Sat 8/24 - Macro Photography Workshop - Macro photography is all about getting closer to your subject and seeing it in a way that you can’t see from a distance. There will be several stations set up including a self contained light box, a glass plate with glycerin drops a well as a still life station with flowers and engagement rings. After lunch, the action moves outside to work with natural light.

    All next week - 3D Sculpture Summer Camp - Students will be introduced to the principles of sculpture then work with reusable clay, wood sculpture from cut shapes and the final project will use a substructure and plaster.

    Sun/Mon - Glass Fusing - Summer Cactus Plate - Turn up the heat with this summer cactus glass fusing workshop! Creat eyour own desert cactus scene with glass! You’ll be guided through cutting, shaping and laying down your glass design.

    Little Learners Pre-K STEAM Camp - This half day sampler camp will have kids spending mornings exploring the worlds of STEAM. Topics include gross/messy/fun science, the technology of robots, engineering with Lego bricks, a day of music and art and a day full of fun and engaging math.


    Gamer Club Summer Camp for kids K-8 - Kids will spend the whole day playing games, but many of them are educational and there will be challenges to participate in. Kids will also have an opportunity to learn about game design, development, escape rooms and more.

    Sat 8/17 - Solomon’s Island - 4th Annual Dragon Boat Festival - Enjoy a day of festivities, crazy costumes, drums and dragon boats.

    Sat 8/17 - Beverly Triton Nature Park - Dragons of the Chesapeake - Speaking of dragons.. If a trip to Solomons Island isn’t in the cards for Saturday, check out Beverly Triton Nature Park for Dragons of the Chesapeake - Not real dragons, or even dragon boats, but dragonFLIES. Dragonflies play an important role in our ecosystem and you can learn all about them and ID different types along with a park ranger.

    Sun 8/18 - Quiet Waters Park - Charity Knitting - Every month during the summer, Quiet Waters hosts a Charity Knitting event. This will be the last one of the season. Knit or crochet baby hats and blankets for the Anne Arundel Medical Center. All skill levels are welcome!

    Sun 8/18 - Aviation Days - Learn about the contributions of the Wright Brothers and the Wright Sister as well as other early aviators through hands-on activities with flyable objects, for ages 1 and up.

    All next week - El Cipitio - This bilingual storytelling camp for middle school students has children putting together costumes and simple sets for a performance at the end of the week. Folktales from Latin American will be featured.

    Animation All Stars Summer Camp - Join Pongos for a week of animation and more! Kids will learn about animation terminology, storyboarding and storytelling, character planning and drawing, traditional, stop-motion, and computer based animation. This camp is for kids in K through 8th grades last school year.

    LEGO Robotics Summer Camp - Kids grades 2-4 will learn how to combine LEGO bricks with gears, pulleys, motors, sensors and programmable parts to build and code robots. This camp will be held at the All Sport Kids Academy in Gambrills.

    Sat 8/18 - Basic Lost Wax Casting - If you missed the first one last week, here’s a chance to jump right in. Students will learn the basics of lost wax casting, including spruing and investing wax patterns as well as casting and finishing.     Two more great summer camps from Pongos Learning Lab in Crofton next week:

    First is Escape Rooms and Game Design for kids who were in K-8 last year. It’s a week of games, puzzles, adventure, mystery and logic. They’ll be playing, solving and making logic games, brain teasers and riddles and they’ll also get to attempt to “escape the camp” with a real escape room.

    Second, Pongos has a Gross, Messy and Fun Science Camp - Kids K-5 will make sticky, slimy, fizzy and fluffy stuff out of everyday materials as well as learning about gross stuff.

    Aug 7-8 - National Electronics Museum - Linthicum - Registration is open for the second session of their Pioneer Camp, studying Electricity and Magnetism for children ages 8-11. This is a repeat of the first session.

    Sat 8/3 - Ocean Pines near Berlin, MD - Pine-Eer Arts and Crafts Festival - Celebrate their 42nd anniversary with artisans and crafters from MD, DE, VA, PA and NJ. Featuring all handcrafted items. Even if you’re not a beach person, Berlin is a beautiful town and this is a good excuse to head down that way.

    Sun 8/4 - First Sunday Arts Festival - With over 130 local and regional artists, this is one of the best local artis festivals in the area and it’s right in our back yard!

    Both Tues Aug 6 and Wed Aug 7th - Raye of Light Studio will be doing a Chesapeake themed Zentangle, making crabs, herons and horseshoe crabs using the relaxing, repetitive design of Zentangle.

    Pongos Learning Lab/Coder Kids Club - Crofton

    Three more great summer camps from Pongos next week!

    First, their Robotics Summer Camp for grades 3-8 - Exploring, building and programming robots, without code, meeting a robot engineer, complete challenges as well as buliding your own robot to take home. Kids will work with Ozobots, Wonder Workshop and LEGO robotics.

    Second, Minecraft Builders for grades K-2 - Kids will be building in Minecraft AND the real world. They’ll learn how to make their own Minecrafts skins and texture packs, how to use redstone and commands to add interactivity to their builds as well as completing guided build challenges.


    Finally, Animation All Stars Summer Camp for grades K-8 - Kids will learn the basics of stop motion animation including planning, storyboarding, and scripting their stories in small groups. They will also create sets and characters and bring them to life. Finally, they’ll add voiceovers, sound effects and music.

    Sun 7/28 - Annmarie Sculpture Garden in Solomons - It’s time for their annual Insectival! Insect Festival - Celebrating and exploring insects through games, art, activities, bug hunts and more. Check out a wide variety of insects including ants, grasshoppers and more.. Including help from friends of Annmarie Gardens: the Association of Maryland Beekeepers, Maryland Entomological society, Natural History Society of Maryland, Wild Birds Unlimited, Honey Bee Rescue of Southern Maryland and more! As always, I know Solomons is a bit of a hike from the Annapolis area, but Annmarie Gardens is worth it, especially when they have special events like this.

    Wed 7/31 - Hammond Harwood House in Annapolis - Explore Botanical Art in the Museum with Titian Peale - Titian Peale became a noted naturalist and botanical artist. In this hands-on program, participants will learn what herbs were cultivated and how they were used for cooking and medicine. The program also features a take home craft of a botanical drawing.
