    Tonight - Sandy Point - Fireflies at Night Hike - Families can learn about our local fireflies, play fun games to learn how fireflies communicate then go on a night hike to observe them in action. Bring insect repellent and shoes good for possibly muddy trails.


    Today through Sunday 7/11-7/14 - Tuckahoe Steam and Gas Association Annual Show - 46th annual show is something to witness. With acres of land, the show includes dozens of steam and diesel powered tractors and engines. A working saw mill, rock crusher, their own private railroad, a huge flea market full of tools and other odds and ends. They even make their own ice cream with one of the motor systems.


    Reminder that the National Electronics Museum in Linthicum starts their Pioneer Camp for ages 8-11 next week, Thursday July 17th and Friday July 18th, where they’ll be studying Electricity and Magnetism! If you miss this session, there will be another one in early August.


    Local by Design - Raye of Light Studio

    Tues 7/16 - Makes Waves with Alcohol Ink - Learn how to blend blue and green alcohol ink to create your own unique ocean scenes. No two waves alike!

    Wed 7/17 - Mix and Learn with Colors - Learn how to blend acrylic paints to make any color in the rainbow. This two-Wednesday mini course will teach you the fundamentals of blending your own colors.

    All next week - 7/15-7/19 - Color Camp - kids 10-15 - Each day of the week introduces a different art form full of color and fun! Students will work with acrylics, watercolors, alcohol ink, markers and printmaking all in one week!

    Fri 7/12 - Comedy Film Night - Hosted by the Clown School of Hollywood, this family friendly monthly film night will entertain and educate you about the role of the “clown” in film. This month focuses on Chaplin vs Keaton, a night of shorts and clips from two of Hollywood’s funniest filmmakers.

    Wed 7/17 - Intro to Improv Summer Camp for Adults - Couple more weeks left and with stand alone lessons each week, there’s never a bad time to jump in and learn the creative expression of improv!

    All next week 7/15-7/19 - Nature Inspired Art Summer Camp for ages 5-8 - Kids will learn methods of traditional arts and crafts, explore the cultures that made them, while looking to nature for inspiration. Make birdhouses out of gourds, carve mock scrimshaw, make paper mache, weave, sew and paint various useful and decorative pieces.

    Also don’t forget that Art Farm has open studio time if you have your own materials, but need space to work!

    Fri 7/12 - Plein Air Landscape Painting in Oil Workshop - Students will be taken to a location in the Annapolis area to learn more about painting landscapes

    Sat 7/13 - Drone Photography Workshop - Local photographer Rich Isaacson will teach you how to use a drone to take eye popping aerial photos and videos! Workshop includes a live flight and photography demo. Students may bring their own drones, but no drone is required to take the class.

    Tues 7/16 - Pottery Wheel Workshop - A two session class to let people give pottery throwing a try! Materials,tools and hands-on instruction are included… at the end, you can choose 2 or 3 pieces to be fired. The second session, different glazing and decorating techniques will be discussed and you will have a chance to glaze your pieces.

    Tues 7/16 - City Dock Speaker Series: Autonomous Vehicles with Dr Tim Chapin - A discussion about how historic communities can integrate with autonomous vehicles.

    Sat 7/13 - Eastport Annapolis Neck - Crafterday! - Make something fun, they provide the materials!

    All next week - Eastport Annapolis Neck Library is hosting a Cosmic Coding class - Children entering 4th or 5th grade will use little programmable “micro:bits” to learn the basics of computer programming during this week-long class. All experience levels are welcome and registration is required. The micro:bit was created by the BBC as an open source hardware platform that was inexpensive and easy to program


    Pongos Learning Lab/Coder Kids Club - Crofton

    All next week, Pongos has two summer camps running…

    First.. - Modding Minecraft Summer Camp for grades 3-8. Kids will learn how to install and use mods as well as building their own mods using Java code in a simple drag and drop editor. As kids become more comfortable, they can hand write their code.

    Then they have their Robotics Summer Camp for grades K-2 - Kids will learn how to program robots, without code, meet a robot engineer, complete challenges and build their own robots to take home!

    Also don’t forget that Pongos has regular weekly clubs for Little Scientists, Builders, YouTube Stars & Animators and Gamers.

    Sun 6/2 - NoVA Maker Faire - In its 6th year, the Northern Virginia Maker Faire is the biggest in the area. Located at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, it’s a really great festival featuring everything STEM. Tons of local and not-so-local groups showing off everything from woodworking, blacksmithing, fiber arts, animation, robotics, glass blowing, custom electric skateboards, aquaponics, printmaking, gardening, soap making, coding, cosplay, jewelry making, lapidary arts, wood turning, lumber milling, baking, drones as well as their Take Apart junk lab where you are invited to disassemble common household appliances to see what makes them tick.

    Sun - running all next week - Annapolis - Paint Annapolis - It it’s 16th year, this is a multi-day juried plein air painting competition that brings 29 distinguished artists from around the globe, selected to paint 300 landscape works highlighting the architecture, marine atmosphere and energy of Annapolis. Pieces will be made available to the public at the Collector’s Reception on Friday June 7th.

    Registration is open for Project STEAM MD’s - Summer Camp running June 24th - August 2nd in Owings Mills. Students 1st - 5th grades can enjoy camp activities with certified teachers including traditional and digital art, computer science, game design 3D printing, day trips, sculpture, reading comprehension, swimming, fashion, engineering and more.

    This weekend - Thurmont - The Maryland Iron Festival - A blacksmithing festival where there will be blacksmithing and casting demonstrations, kids’ activities, historic foods, beer, wine, tours, art, craft and jewelry displays plus live music.

    This weekend - Londontown Gardens - Shore Party - Explore the maritime history of the South River with reenactors in costume, boats, and activities for the whole family.Try your hand at rope making and seamanship, learn how sailors lived day to day and experience the art and science of navigation. In the afternoon, there will also be a discussion and demonstrations about 18th century trade with Asia.

    This weekend - is the last few days of the Muddy Creek Artists Guild 10th Anniversary Spring Art Show and Sale at South River Colony Main Street Shopping Center - Check out the works of more than 50 local South County artists in a variety of mediums.

A free family event featuring live music, educational activities for all ages, a food truck and snow cones will be on site as well as an inflatable obstacle course, environmental mosaic project, animal encouters by Scales and Tails as well as kayaking and seining!

    Today - 4/11 - Creative and Performing Arts of South County in Edgewater is having a Portrait Workshop - Exploring the basics of creating naturalistic portraits as well as drawing from observation. No experience required, just bring a photo to work off of, headshots only.

    Sat 4/13 - Maggiano’s Annapolis Mall - Kids Class - Meatballs Marinara - Kids will learn how to build their own meatballs and marinara sauce. Kids will receive their own chef hat and apron that they can take home with them. Class is preceded by a buffet style breakfast and the bar will be open with $2 mimosas and $5 bloody marys for mom and dad. After 8 classes, the kids will receive a monogrammed chef coat!
