    Fall festivals -

    Sat 9/29 - Piney Run Apple Festival, Eldersurg, just north of Columbia. Enjoy everything apple as well as family craft making activities, scarecrow making, hayrides, music and more.

    9/22-10/28 Sats/Suns - Homestead Gardens Fall Festival, Davidsonville - In their 35th year, Homestead Gardens’ Fall festival is the largest in the area, featuring hayrides, a pumpkin patch, corn maze, corn cannon, pollinator express, corn box, carnival games, pony rides, beer garden and their amazing apple cider donuts. Also with food, including Beards Creek BBQ!

    9/22-10/28 - Sats/Suns - Greenstreet Gardens Fall Festival in Lothian - featuring many of the same things but also including a petting zoo, spider web and tire tower.

    Sat 9/29 - Hops & Harvest Festival in Columbia - featuring 75 MD beers, wines and spirits along with 25 MD artisans and other vendors as well as local food, live entertainment, games and more.

    Sat 9/29 - Oella History Hike at the Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum - Learn local history while hiking 3.5 miles at Banneker Park. Advance registration is required

    Sun 9/30 - Do you know the story of Cassiopeia or how to make your own glow water? Check out the Irvine Nature Center in Owings Mills for Moonlight Mania. Learn the mysteries of the stars, create your own constellation and watch the stages of the moon in person!

    Today/all weekend 9/28-9/30 - 23rd Annual Baltimore Book Festival - Baltimore’s premier celebration of literary arts showcasing renowned and celebrity authors, book signings, panel discussions, children’s activities and more.

    This weekend 9/29-9/30 - Muddy Creek Artists Guild Studio Tour - This third annual artists’ studio tour showcases Guild artists working on a variety of media in an “open house” at their respective studios.

    This weekend 9/29-9/30 - Charm City Fly-In - Remote Control Airplane Festival - Halethorpe - this annual event is the largest celebration of radio controlled flying in Maryland with two days of demonstrations, airshows and hands on experience with radio controlled planes, jets, helicopters and more.

    Mon 10/1-10/31 - Free Fall Baltimore - is a citywide arts celebration featuring more than 300 free arts and cultural activities at venues around Baltimore. Check their website for a full list of participating venues.

    County fairs -

    Anne Arundel County Fair - starts Wed 9/12 - all next weekend

    Tonight - 9/6 - 4th Annual Baltimore Taxidermy Open presented by the Walters Art Gallery and Bazaar, a Hampden shop specializing in natural history items and morbid gifts, this exhibit features works of alternative taxidermy as well as examples of taxidermy from the Walters’ collection.

    Sat 9/8 - Columbia - Color Columbia - Plein Air Paint Out - Come out and check out artists painting outdoors around Lake Kittamaqundi and Wilde Lake in Columbia. You’re also invited to join the artists, with your family and friends. All supplies provided and some light instruction available.

    Sat 9/8 - Frederick - In The Street Festival including Craft Beverage Experience - Spend the day enjoying nine blocks of fun children’s activities, local art organizations, four stages of entertainment, beer/wine gardens, local Frederick breweries and distilleries, live music and plenty of food.

    Sat 9/8 - Chesapeake Beach and North Beach - in association with the Chesapeake Beach Oyster Cultivation Society and Chesapeake Beach Railway Trail, it’s their “Taste the Beaches” festival. There will be local restaurants, food trucks, beer and wine, a Kids Zone with The Chesapeake Mermaid, their Fish Mobile (a travelling aquarium with Chesapeake Bay inhabitants), a Birds of Prey exhibit, local vendors and live music.

    Sat-Sun 9/8-9/9 - Check out the 51st Annual Maryland Seafood Festival at Sandy Point State Park - As always, it features music, contests, great food, their famous crab soup cook-off and much more.

    Tomorrow/all weekend - Wicomico County Fair - Salisbury

    Tonight - Howard County Conservancy just outside of Ellicott City - Mantises and Martinis - A special over-21 party. Enjoy a summer night out with special martinis and a live discussion with Drs Mike Raupp and Paula Shrewsbury about their favorite bugs (and butterflies) with an optional stroll in the meadow.

    Tomorrow/Fri 8/17 - Art Farm Annapolis - Mosaic Mirror Workshop - Decorate a frame with glass, stones, tiles or broken dishes to create a custom mirror with a 5x7” opening. Learn how to arrange and cut pieces to make interesting designs and patterns.

    Sat 8/18 - Most 3rd Saturdays - Edgewater - Historic Londontown Gardens - Tot Time - Admire the beauty of nature, hunt for different leaf shapes or go on a nature treasure hunt.     Sat 8/11 - Road trip to Reston - 2nd Annual Reston Cardboard Boat Regatta presented by NoVA Labs and the NoVA Maker Faire

    Sat 8/11 - National Clustered Spires High Wheel Race - High wheel bicycles, also known as penny-farthing bikes, are the olde tymey bikes with the giant front wheel and tiny rear wheel. In this race, competitors from all over the US, England, Canada and Sweden will compete. Last year, Sweden one and their champion is returning this year. Frederick is a bit of a hike for some, but it’s worth it for this one of a kind event.. The only high wheel race of it’s kind in the US

    Sat 8/11 - Benjamin Banneker Historical Park & Museum - Ellicott City - Basket Making - Expert basket maker leads a special Shaker Basket Workshop

    Sun 8/12 - St Michaels - Waterman’s Appreciation Day - Celebrate everything Chesapeake. Event includings a waterman’s rodeo boat docking contest, living music, steamed crabs, beer and other food and drink.

    Late Sun 8/12-13 - Perseid Meteor Shower - runs annually from July 17th to Aug 24th but peaks Sunday night. With a thin crescent moon setting early, if the clouds and weather cooperate, it’ll be a perfect night to view them. One great place is at the Howard County Conservancy in Woodstock, MD just past Ellicott City

    County fairs - Queen Anne’s County (starting Monday all next week) in Centreville just over the bridge.. Howard County fair just up past Columbia in West Friendship starts Saturday and also runs all next week.

    Starting Saturday 8/4 and running through Nov 24th, there will be hard hat tours of the James Brice House in downtown Annapolis. This 18th century dwelling is undergoing restoration and there will be tours teaching about the people who built the house and the craftspeople restorying it today.

    8/4/2018 - Annmarie Garden, Solomons, (first Saturday) Makers Market - The Maker's Market is THE place to find handmade, homemade, or homegrown products!

    Saturday 8/4 - Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum - Foraging at Banneker’s Homestead - Walk with a Benjamin Banneker Foundation member to see what edibles are around the park. Preregistration is required by phone or email.

    Saturday 8/4 - Berlin - Pine’eer Arts & Crafts Festival - Sponsored by the Ocean Pines Pine’eer Craft Club, it features artisans from VA, MD, DE and PA selling hand made items. There will be a bake sale, food vendors and farmers market as well.

    All Next week - Engineering Summer Camp - This is a special camp to construct a Rube Goldberg Machine. Each camper will have their own section to design and build with help from the entire team. Sections may be entirely mechanical or may contain electronic, robotic and computer controlled devices.

    County fairs aren’t just fried food and carnival rides… they feature classic and new agricultural methods and machinery, crafts of all sorts and lots of STEM related things involved with modern and classic agriculture… farms are what feed us all. Support your local farmers!

    7/20-22/2018 - Artscape Baltimore - America’s largest free arts festival, attracting 350k+ attendees over 3 days with 150+ fine artists, fashion designers, craftspeople, visual art exhibits, sculpture, art cars, photography and live music.
